São Paulo, May 2022 – A business unit of Grupo Sabará specialized in natural and technological solutions for various industry sectors, Concepta Ingredients has just launched the Bio Abundance Program, which reinforces its commitment to ensuring full traceability of raw materials sourced from the Amazon and other Brazilian biomes.
The initiative is based on five pillars: connecting people in a virtuous value chain between the richness of the forest and the market; conserving standing forest; respecting the peoples and communities that inhabit it; encouraging the use of ingredients from Brazilian biomes; and promoting socioeconomic inclusion and the reduction of social inequality.
Rooted in the engagement of communities, cooperatives, and supplier associations, the Bio Abundance Program emerges to enhance an ongoing effort at Concepta Ingredients. “The organic ingredients we offer are supported by the training of families and the conservation of different Brazilian biomes, contributing indirectly to the maintenance of approximately 1.5 million hectares of forest through the valorization of non-timber forest products,” explains Lilia Kawazoe, commercial manager of the business unit.
The executive states that the initiative directly and indirectly involves about 2,800 families engaged in the collection and processing of products, including traditional peoples who find in this activity yet another reason to remain in their regions of origin, enabling income generation through these raw materials. “Suppliers are also encouraged to sustainably manage extractive activities of natural substances, valuing cooperatives and traditional communities and contributing to the security of biomes and territories,” adds Lilia.
Grupo Sabará: An Agenda Anchored in Sustainability
The commitment to sustainability and reducing harmful environmental impacts led to Grupo Sabará’s CEO, Ulisses Matiolli Sabará, being recognized as a Local SDG Pioneer of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during the Global Compact Leaders Summit in 2016. Currently, he represents SDG 15 – Life on Land, for protecting, restoring, and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. Concepta Ingredients, in turn, aligns all its work with the values upheld by the UN, especially SDGs 15 – Life on Land and 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production.
“For Grupo Sabará, maintaining Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance is part of its business strategy; it is not just a management approach. The company has practiced sustainability and socio-environmental conservation throughout its 65-year history in all its projects, understanding that today’s actions will make a better planet possible for us and our children in the future,” states Giovanna Cappellano, ESG coordinator at the Group.
